Hagan makes backcountry skiing equipment for people like you – active people with a love for winter recreation in the mountains.
Hagan makes gear we use and believe in, because we love alpine ski touring for the same reasons you do – elevating our heart rates while we elevate our bodies and spirits in nature's beauty. We believe there is nothing as inspiring and invigorating as silently climbing through still woods, emerging into glistening pure snow fields at dawn and descending through the weightlessness of fresh snow.
We are the oldest ski making company in the world and pioneers in backcountry skiing. We developed the sport, specialize in the sport and live the lifestyle.
Hagan didn't jump on the backcountry skiing bandwagon after the sport became popular. We built the wagon. Climb aboard.
Hagan Ultra, Core and Boost series skis are equipped with our advanced 3D Tapered Rib construction to reduce weight and create the perfect flex pattern. The rib is tall and narrow near the bindings, widening while getting thinner near the tips and tails. Outboard of the 3D Diminishing Rib the entire surface of the ski tapers down to a very narrow edge, eliminating unnecessary material to save weight.
Titanal top-surface sheets reinforce binding mounting strength while strengthening and stiffening the skis in the mid-ski area. (Except for the Core 84 Lite, which is designed to be a softer flexing, more forgiving version of the Core 84 for lighter or less advanced/aggressive skiers.) Inlaid tip notches in the Ultra and Core series are durable and provide the most secure and easiest skin attachment. Paulownia cores, carbon tips and tails and bottom stringers create ultra light high performance skis.
HAGAN stands for designing and building innovative, premium, high quality and reliable products that reflect our deep passion for the sport of backcountry skiing. As an independent, family-owned Austrian company that has been under family ownership since it was founded in 1924, HAGAN takes pride in making reliable backcountry gear. Likewise, HAGAN USA is a family owned and operated business. We ski tour (very) regularly and our wish is to help you enjoy this awesome sport.
Our goals are to produce stylish, high-performance specialty ski mountaineering gear that emphasizes reliability, durability and lightweight performance. We develop gear that reflects our consumer’s demand for innovation and ultimate performance along with our family businesses’ love of the Alps and people who share our passion. Hagan’s proprietary technologies are ever-evolving while new technologies are being added alongside them to extract the highest performance from our gear. We believe ski touring is an incredibly healthy and rewarding activity and we want to encourage and enable more people to enjoy it.
Hagan has a deep heritage while being new to America. Our roots lie in Austria. We started there 97 years ago. Hagan's headquarters is still in the original small Austrian village of the founding brothers, led by one of the brother's grandsons. We are known for thoughtfully designed, high-performing, top quality, no fuss equipment.
12 years ago I set up shop in Colorado. I retired from a career in Army Special Forces and wanted to challenge myself in a new way. I had no business experience, but tremendous enthusiasm for backcountry skiing. I taught ski mountaineering while in the Special Forces and had recently started racing. So why not try to build a business from scratch in a sport I was passionate about.
By bringing Hagan backcountry skiing equipment to America, I could share my passion for ski touring and make it accessible to more people to enjoy its wonders and health benefits.
We are America's ski mountaineering brand for active people who understand and value the importance of healthy lifestyles, fitness and experiencing nature. For those who appreciate self-propelled exploration of the mountains. And for those who believe fitness and health are their own rewards, but also hope to inspire others to live better lives.
Join us and be part of the movement to ski tour more, live better and be happier. Life - Elevated.

The Denver Post wrote a good article recently on the uphill skiing policies at Colorado ski areas.
Some areas will allow uphilling only outside of ski area operating hours — meaning only when the lifts aren’t running — but others will allow it during operating hours as well. All restrict uphill travel to certain routes, with most offering only a handful of trails, but a third or so of Winter Park’s terrain will be open for skinning.
Most require buying an uphill season pass for a nominal fee, but uphilling is free at all five Vail Resorts properties in the state: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Crested Butte.
